Time Zone
The vast majority of Indiana counties and cities, including Indianapolis, are in the Eastern Time Zone and follow Eastern Standard Daylight Savings Time. To mitigate any confusion – unless otherwise noted – all times on the IU CME website will reflect the Eastern Time Zone.
As you may generally be aware, until recently, Indiana did not follow Eastern Daylight Savings Time. As a result, part of the year Indiana was on the same time as New York City and Washington DC while the other part of the year Indiana was on the same time as Chicago and St. Louis. This resulted in some confusion by our out-of-state visitors. In 2005 Indiana became the 48th state to adopt Daylight Savings Time. As a result, the vast majority of Indiana is on the same time as New York City and Washington DC throughout the year.
If you are traveling to Indiana and you have questions or concerns, please consult your travel agent or a current time zone map.
